Virtually any internet connection is bound to get slow, unpredictable or faulty at some point – that’s the thing with technology. If only they can fix their own problems, right?

But hey, that doesn’t mean you’re left to sulk in the corner. Here are a couple of tips you can use to help you manage your mobile broadband connection.

Understand the Basics. I’m sure you’ve done it, glanced down at your laptop screen to see how many vertical reception bars are available – if you have two or three, then you deem it fine, now if it’s staying at one, what then? These lines are an easy and easily identifiable way of checking whether you’re in an area of little/poor (1 bar) or high/very good signal quality (4 or 5 bars).

Also, when there is a poor signal, most mobile devices will try to boost their system output in an effort automatically to increase reception; this can increase the temperature of the device.Your network can oftentimes operate several diverse technology platforms and signal quality. One moment you can be on a 3G network with an excellent reception quality and the next you’re getting4G, which will dramatically boost the connection quality.

Avoid surfing during peak periods. Typically, the busiest time to use a mobile broadband is during peak usage hours, such as between 5-10PM when people come home from work. During theseperiods, your connection speed is likely to be slower when compared to the early morning or late night.

Positioning your device.I’m concerned over the fact that many people still expect their mobile broadband connection to be the same as their fixedlandline connection or wireless network. Mobile reception quality can suffer when you’re inside your home (or any building for that matter), especially when you move to a level below ground where network signal can vanish altogether.

And maybe that’s why it’s called mobile broadband connection, since it’s designed for people who move often, albeit on the outside world. In any case, sitting near the window or an open space will instantly boost the broadband’s signal strength.

Research before Buying. It’s easy to buy stuff mindlessly especially if you’re hyped with excitement over its advertisement. The worst decision anybody can make it to rush and purchase a mobile broadband contract without knowing if the service is good.

The supplier’s website should have a clear customer guide for maximizing the device’s capability. The 4G and 3G connection of iiNet for instance provides a comprehensive list of FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions) to assist their clients with their queries and other concerns about their mobile broadband service.

So, what should you expect from a good mobile broadband supplier? For starters, a mobile broadband plan should have no setup fees, so you shouldn’t have to worry about costly installation. After signing up, you should receive your wireless USB modem. All you need to do is plug it in, follow a few simple instructions and you should be connected within minutes.

If the website where you’re buying from contains an arsenal of services related to internet connection and plans, well, you’ve struck a gold mine.

And that’s it.There might be a few more things you can do to boost your mobile broadband signal, but you only need to remember one thing –buying the right mobile broadband is the first step to achieving the stability and speed you want.
